LAN means Local Area Network. LAN World on Minecraft basically means that anyone else playing from the same router/modem as you can join your world.
When a LAN world is created, you can find the world in the 'multiplayer' section in the main menu. Double click on the selected LAN world to connect to the world. Remember that you have to be on the same Wi-Fi as the person you are trying to connect with.
A LAN world means if someone is playing Minecraft using the same modem/router as you, they can come into your world and play with you.
If you are making a world then: At the Main Menu press: Singleplayer -> Create New World -> Gamemode: Creative. If you already have a world then: (If cheats are enabled) /gamemode c or Press 'esc' -> Open to LAN -> Allow Cheats: ON -> Start LAN World -> Go back into game and type /gamemode c Note:Opening your game to LAN will not allow random players to join your world, if someone else in your house is using the internet and are searching for LAN worlds on their PC then they might be able to join (but to be honest I have played loads of LAN survival with my friends and you can't actually see the world unless you have an amazing internet connection, we usually have to type in the port). Happy Minecrafting!

You can open a LAN server if they are within your household, or you can join a server.
No. The way LAN connections work is: Minecraft searches your network (what all computers in your home are connected to) for games to join. Through LAN connections you can't connect to anything outside of your network.
You need to have another player playing with you locally on a LAN (Local Area Network) game.
Yes with LAN. Just get your friend to open a single player world to LAN and then click on multiplayer and select his world
