In the wii version there is several ways to climb. One way is you wait until it flashes and says press b and our grab onto the wall.
Another way of climbing is when you want to climb up a poll, you hold b while moving the wii remote up and down alternately.
If you want to strafe across a wall just start walking sideways across the wall and he will strafe across it.
