A Male Pokémon will have this symbol ♂ next to their name and a Female Pokémon will have this symbol ♀ next to their name. The Pokémon that do not have those symbols are classified as Genderless Pokémon.
For Pokémon Gold, Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Crystal for the Gameboy Color, the male/Female symbols will be after their HP counter while in the Battle Screen.
