Whenever you first select the Pokemon trainer on the menu you can select which Pokemon you want to start off with by clicking on their picture. When you are in the middle of a fight all you have to do is push down and b. (You cannot switch Pokemon in midair) If you stop moving your Pokemon might act tired or they might be droopy. This is a sign that your Pokemon is tired and its attack isn't as strong as it could be. All you have to do is battle with a different Pokemon for a while and then the other Pokemon will be rested up.

Then you just select the Pokemon you want to put in your party. Then go to move when have selected the Pokemon you want. Now your hand on the game should be grabbing the Pokemon so you just move it on your party. When you want to switch a Pokemon you just press "A" and it will switch what Pokemon your grabbing. The retreat in the Pokemon Trading Card game means to use an Energy or two attached to the active Pokemon card to switch out with one of the benched Pokemon. It's a lot like switching in the real Pokemon games, but you would need to have energy attached to the Pokemon in order to retreat like noted before.

Assuming you are facing a trainer who has atleast one more pokémon left, it is the default setting to ask if you want to switch. If it no longer asks this, go into Options > Battle Style. Change this to Shift intead of Set.
Teleport can do the following: - flee from a wild Pokemon battle - switch out in a trainer battle - teleport you to the Pokemon centre you used last It's a handy move until you get fly if you don't want to walk back to the city you were just at but really you can run from most wild battles and switch Pokemon manually anyway.
First, go to the second floor then go to the third floor using the stairs in the back. Use the secret switch on the statue and fall down the hole to the left of the scientist trainer. Now battle the trainer and go down. You should see a staircase to the basement.
