PSPs do not take SD memory cards, they only take Max Duo.There are adaptors to allow you to use a 'micro SD' card, the adaptor is the same size as a Max Duo, but with a slot for the micro SD card. However regular SD cards are simply too wide to fit in the PSP.

It doesn't need a SD card, but you can put in a SD card if you want to store more pictures and music. If the SD card doesn't hold music, but camera, the SD card will not work on the music.

No, SD cards do not work. You need a Sony Pro Duo.
Yes, But you must Format the memory card. You can do this by inserting it in the PSP then go to Settings/ System Settings/ Format Memory Stick This will delete everything on the memory card and make folders for the PSP. Basically it formats it so that the PSP knows where everything is such as MUSIC, VIDEOS, or PICTURES. Again it will work at no risk. But I'm warning you it will delete everything on the memory card so if it's your camera's memory card you might want to transfer the Files to another storage device or computer.
You will need a memory card inside it to store any data - the PSP's internal memory is only for its own firmware and internal settings. Note that 'SD cards' are not compatible with PSPs, you need 'Memory Stick' brand memory cards, which are a slightly different size.
A psp takes a card called MicroSD. To put this card into your computer, you will need a MicroSD adapter, normally it will come with the card. Of course, you can not put this adapter into your computer if you do not have a SD card slot, so you will have to buy a USB microSD card adapter.
