In short: no. The Xbox 360 has to install an original Xbox emulator program to run the Xbox games. It stores this emulation software on the hard drive.
If you're going to run your games from the DVD drive then horizontal. If you you're going to load your game onto the hard drive and play it then it doesn't matter.
When the Xbox says install game it does not mean you are about to install the full game onto your hard drive. When you install a game on to your Xbox it's taking some of the game files and installing them to make the game run smoother and possibly look better.
New casing, a new chipset which helps it run cooler and redesigned motherboard and a revised DVD drive

There are very little advantages to this but I belive that if you install a game to your hard drive your xbox will run a little cooler and if your disc shatters or breaks inside the xbox 360 itself then your data from your games is not lost and can be retrieved from your hard drive. Hope this helped.
This will allow for in most cases a faster load time. Also the Xbox 360 will run quieter because the disk drive will not be spinning.
When referring to memory you need to be more specific. Do you mean usable memory (RAM) or do you mean storage (Hard Drive). An Xbox comes with a set amount of Ram, not upgradable. The Hard Drive can be upgraded to a larger drive(very expensive). All games that are made for the Xbox will run on any Xbox( no compatibility problems.
As long as your hd isn't filled up too much, all games run smoother on the hard drive.
Two red lights mean that the Xbox 360 is overheating. This is not caused by the hard drive but more likely by the location that the xbox is in, or if it was run for an overly extended period of time. The hard drive is still usable and can be safely used on the new xbox.
OK, well you were half right in your question. In order to play on XBox live you will need either the wireless network adapter or run an Ethernet cable from your 360 to your home router. Simply having the hard drive will not allow you to play on XBox live.
On compatible computers a program cannot run directly from the hard disk drive without loading it into the memory because the processor can access and address only the main memory.

Yes, all you need to do is install the game on an xbox. Take apart the xbox you installed it on and the disc drive. Run the game and when the disc stops spinning and is running off the hard drive take it out and put it in the other xbox. This works with all games.
