It basically cuts the loading time on the game etc...
tooth paste? are you kidding? you cant fix a game with tooth paste
Your disc may be scratched, you can fix that by borrowing the game from a friend and install the game (from the game library tab) and then return it and it should work.
It's quieter AND uses a crap load of space.
Probably the game is old, scratched, dirty, etc. Also if the game system is old, scratched, dirty, etc. Or if the power source is old, scratched, dirty, etc. Also there can be something that went wrong in the creation of the game. Also, if you are playing an online game, it could lag because you have bad connection to the host.

Yes you can. But if the disc is severely scratched, it most likely will not install. If you have a friend with the same game, ask them if you can borrow it so you can install it to your hard drive, then use your disc.
in the dash board go to the game and press Y then go to install on hardrive
Installs it to your hardive. This means you will be able to play the game without the disk. It also reduces the loading speed as it loading from the hardrive and not from the actual disk. As a side note to some people: You cannot download a game to a ps2's hardrive.
youll have to get the game again it has happend with sims 2 pets with me
If you installl the scratched disc it won't but if you install a working one (from a friend) it will let you play the scratched one. :)
you will need a hardrive or a memory card to save a game yes.
Install it from a different disk onto hardrive or xbox usb then you use the broken disk as a key to play it.

If you install it into you're hardrive then you don't need a disk at all. You simply access the game from the games section.
