LAN worlds are available only to people who are on your local network. They have to actually be connected to your network, for the LAN IP to make sense.

LAN means Local Area Network. LAN World on Minecraft basically means that anyone else playing from the same router/modem as you can join your world.
If you have a LAN in your house this should be easy, what you do is go onto one of your Minecraft worlds and then press Esc to pause it, then you click on Open Lan and then it comes up with a IP adress. After that it should come up on the other computer, if it doesn't then click on Direct Connect in Multiplayer and put in the IP if you can't remember what it is then you go to your computer thats running the Minecraft and in the game press T and it should come up with the chat log and the IP adress should be there then put it in and "VOLA" your in.

It never 'scans' for LAN worlds because it's not accessing anything outside of your own personal network. It's your LAN, you should already know what's being run on it.
No. The way LAN connections work is: Minecraft searches your network (what all computers in your home are connected to) for games to join. Through LAN connections you can't connect to anything outside of your network.

From the main minecraft menu, go into the multiplayer section. It will say searching for LAN worlds, if one is found it will appear on screen. you can then click it and then press join. To join a LAN world there must be another computer on your network supporting a LAN world.

I think it's because Mojang failed when they did the update 1.4.4 they wil fix it as soon as they notice it.

To make a world a LAN world click Ecs. On that screen, there is a "Open To LAN" button. Click it. You will get to choose what game mode, and if you want cheats. Click "Start LAN world". Done. The person who created the LAN world must be on to have other players on it. To go onto to a LAN world, Click multiplayer. It will scan for LAN worlds. (P.S You have to be on the same internet connection to connect.)
