Well I own Crystal, and when I met red he was very hard to beat. But anyway the answer would be yes, because i got to battle him like five times. It was awsome beating his Pokemon. Oh by the way if you want to know what Pokemon he has these are it:
pikachu, snorlax, umm... sorry but i can't remember what the others were, but I'll put them back in as soon as i figure out what Pokemon he has again. lol >_<
they are pikachu, snorlax, blastoise, charizard, venasaur, and lapras.
