Answer

First of all the question is why do people lie. Lying has been debated by countless psychologist and philosopher alike. When people lie there is always a mean. The intention is what matters (the mean) not the outcome (the conclusion). A+B=C without B being added to A, C would not be absolute. You drop a rock on the ground and it makes a sound. Without the rock hitting the ground, it wouldn't of produced any sound, again the mean. So anyway, There are an infinite spectrum of reasons why people lie and there really is no absolute answer. But for the most part when people lie, they are attempting to cover up an incongruity. No one is happy with something being out of balance and when the person is consciously aware of this incongruity, they will lie to try to run away from the reality of the scenario and reduce their anxiety. For example, Jack steals money from Bob and Bob asks him if he has seen his money, Jack will say no because he is aware of the unbalance of the situation and he cannot accept it so he will lie to reduce anxiety and to return to his previous state of congruity.

Answer

Everyone lies sometimes, women and men alike. Most people are guilty of social lies, or "little white lies" that are harmless, designed to be self-protective, or to spare another person's feelings.

Unfortunately, some people go far beyond that. Intentional deception is often a means to an end, intended to result in some sort of personal gain. In men, this may mean sex outside their primary relationship. Infidelity can spawn a web of deceit so large the man may forget what's truth and what's fiction. On the other hand, he may be in command of the situation, and simply not care about other people's feelings.

Chronic liars tend to be self-centered, defensive and manipulative. They may deny the truth in the face of evidence, or use twisted facts and logic to rationalize their behavior as acceptable or to deflect attention from reality.

When caught, real men eventually own their flaws and dishonesty; others play the victim and try to con you into believing you're paranoid or making false and unfair accusations. Although some may truly believe they're being attacked, this may also be a convenient ploy to end a relationship that's ceased meeting their needs.
