As Yoda said in Episode I, the Dark Side shrouds everything. It is most reasonable that because Palpatine was so powerful with the Dark Side, that even as powerful with the Light Side as Master Yoda was, he was unable to sense the darkness surrounding Palpatine, even when they were in the same room together. One of the biggest key differences that one should notice between the Jedi and Sith here is that the Sith will always be more powerful than the Jedi; although, the Jedi have strength in numbers and in courage.

The best jedi who ever lived is Mace Windu. Some people say that yoda is the best, but when he fought Empire Palpatine, he lost and when Windu fought him he could have killed him, but Anakin butted in and betrayed him. Oh, and obi-wan was the best soldier for the Republic. He only died to save Luke. He let himself get killed. The best sith lord is Empire Palpatine. Hands down. Hope this helped!
Chancellor Palpatine talked him into it in Episode III by telling him a story about Darth Muun at a Senate meeting. Then he told him that there is a power that can only be learned by a Sith: Making someone live forever. Anakin wanted to make Padme live forever. When Mace Windu, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto went to arrest the chancellor, Palpatine killed all the masters except for Mace. Then, Anakin walked in and saw Mace trying to kill Palpatine, so he betrayed Mace and cut off his lightsaber arm, leaving him vulnerable to Palpatine's lightning (Palpatine used his lightning to hold Mace and throw him really far, killing him). Then Anakin became Plapatine's apprentice, Darth Vader.
Only because the storyline said that he couldn't. Yoda had that guy beat. Moreover, if Yoda hadn't killed the Sith lord, Luke Skywalker would not have had much to do in episode 4,5, and 6.
Ok in this battle between yoda and Darth maul would be tough for both maul being a hunter and yoda being a grand master an all.. everyone know in force power yoda would have a times ten upper hand on things so with those statistics i would say yoda would win the only chance maul would have is if he was able to over due yoda with lightsabers and even with a double blade maul would have to be at the top of his game they are both fast and strong but yoda is more trained and wise maul is in for blood and that's it so Yoda V.S. Darth Maul yoda would have the victory but i belive that there is a 1 in a million chance that maul might be able to pull through but it would be very unlikely which is a shame because maul is my favorite character
Yoda is his only name.
