Chancellor Palpatine talked him into it in Episode III by telling him a story about Darth Muun at a Senate meeting. Then he told him that there is a power that can only be learned by a Sith: Making someone live forever. Anakin wanted to make Padme live forever. When Mace Windu, Agen Kolar, Saesee Tiin, and Kit Fisto went to arrest the chancellor, Palpatine killed all the masters except for Mace. Then, Anakin walked in and saw Mace trying to kill Palpatine, so he betrayed Mace and cut off his lightsaber arm, leaving him vulnerable to Palpatine's lightning (Palpatine used his lightning to hold Mace and throw him really far, killing him). Then Anakin became Plapatine's apprentice, Darth Vader.
