The beatnik character in the "Dobie Gillis" TV series was played by actor Dwayne Hickman. His character, Maynard G. Krebs, was known for his laid-back, countercultural demeanor and frequent use of the expression "Work?!" The show aired from 1959 to 1963 and was notable for its portrayal of teenage life and social issues of the time. Hickman's performance made Maynard a memorable character in television history.
