Music that is nationalistic is often very patriotic, and encourages pride in one's nation or country; such songs become part of the culture and people can identify with them. A number of nationalistic songs were written during wars ("The Star Spangled Banner" for example), and talk about how the nation defeated tyranny or rose above another nation that tried to conquer it. Songs that are chosen as National Anthems generally have features of nationalism, since they are meant to make people proud every time the song is sung or performed.
