troupe "Ensemble" is used more nowadays, especially when referring to television productions.

"Troupe" sounds stilted and archaic by comparison, and is more likely to be used to denote irony or sarcasm.

In ancient Greece, where theater as we know it was born, a group of actor were called 'hypocrites', and there were other group which was called 'The Chorus'. In modern days, a group of working actors of a production is called 'Cast', and a group of organized actors, as it is in other kind of professions, is called a 'Guild'.
