Don Giovanni is a fictional character in the two part Opera of the same name, Don Giovanni. In the opera Don Giovanni is a young and licentious nobleman. The opera is based on the legends of Don Juan, who was a fictional seducer and libertine. The character was played by Luigi Bassi in 1787 and by Francesco Albertarelli in 1788.

Basically - Don Giovanni [a rake] meets defeat in three encounters - With Donna Elvira, whom he has deserted but who still follows him. Then with Donna Anna, who must postpone her marriage to Don Ottavio after Don Giovanni tries to rape her and kills her father. Finally with Zerlina, whom he vainly tries to lure from her fiancé, the peasant Masetto. They all vow vengeance on Don Giovanni and his servant Leporello. Finally Don Giovanni is destroyed and delivered to hell by the statue of the Commendatore, who had accepted Giovanni's invitation to supper.
