No. His jutsu keeps him awake in order to keep his biju under control. If he falls asleep the demon comes out. He has some kind of insomniac jutsu that help him keep awake, also theorized that it is partially the cause of his behavior. EDIT: Actually, it is suggested in the anime that he does sleep though does so rarily because any sustained amount of sleep will cause Shukaku to slowly eat his soul and take over control.
