In dynamics, m stands for "mezzo", which means "moderately".

m is used in front of p or f, where p stands for "piano" (soft), and f stands for "forte" (loud). Which means that mp stands for "mezzo piano" (moderately soft), and mf stands for "mezzo forte" (moderately loud).

But there isn't a dynamic called m by itself.

If you mean this m. Then it means mezzo(mezzo means 'moderately'). But you usually find the m with a p(piano) meaning soft, or f(forte)meaning loud after it. You will never find an m by itself in music ever.

Shorthand for specifying passages of music by measure numbers (m. = measure; mm. = measures. Example:

The introduction occupies only mm. 1-2. The cellos enter with the principal theme in m. 3. Measures 155-401 constitute the development section.

Useful when writing a lot about measures.

(Though M.M. might mean metronome marking if followed by a single number. M.M. 120. Though more often instead we speak "Quarter = 120")
