Nothing and that is the point of the novel. All of the boys, Ralph included, eventually give in to their innate savagery through time as they gradually lose the influence of the old society of morals and regulations and descend into corruption and savagery innate in human nature without the restraint of society. Ralph did simply everything he could given the deteriorating situation, trying to implement law and civility into the boys but his efforts were lost in the frenzy of the innate savagery emerging from themselves. As we see towards the end of the novel, even Ralph forgets the importance and hope of the fire signal and participates in a hunt and is involved in the murder of Simon. They were helpless to themselves.
To quote directly about Ralph from the book... Lying there in the darkness, he knew he was an outcast. "'Cos I had some sense." As he later said to Samneric, "What have I done? I liked him-- and wanted us to be rescued--" And "But I've done nothing... I only wanted to keep up a fire!"
Ralph finds out from Sam & Eric that Ralph will be hunted down by Jack's tribe and Roger will "sharpen a stick at both ends". That could mean that Jack's wants Ralph's head, or something symobic like the harm done onto another causes harm to oneself.
Simon most likely has very bright colored eyes like green or blue because he is described as having eyes so bright that they decieved Ralph into thinking him "gay and wicked." Also after Simon is done talking with the lord of the flies it says that his eyes lost his brightness as he staggered down the mountain.
Ralph admires piggy because piggy has a clear sense of things. He doesn't think about the negatives. And he doesn't think things that will get him scared. He states the truth and lives with it. that is what makes him who he is.
Ralph suggested that they needed to build a fire to attract any passing planes or ships if they wanted to be rescued. Jack led the boys up to to the top of the mountain to build the fire. Both Ralph and Jack worked hard to build a huge bonfire and then, they realised that they had nothing to light it with. They had no matches, no cigarette lighter, nothing. That is why they were both embarrassed.
They could've came to agreement and seattle with the other countries.
What part of this task I should have done differently?

The US could have bombed the critical industries of oil and ball bearings more often otherwise not much
Ralph could have sought refuge in a more concealed location, such as hiding in thick vegetation or climbing a tree. He could have also tried to build a stronger defense or fortify his shelter to make it more secure against Jack's attacks. Additionally, Ralph could have tried to negotiate or form alliances with other characters to increase his chances of survival.

It is unclear what Americans could have done to avoid the Great Depression. The hard times during this time period were little fault of American citizens, but of the government. The only thing in retrospect they could have done was elect a different president.
