In "Lord of the Flies," a token of preposterous time refers to the pig's head, also known as the Lord of the Flies, that Simon encounters in the forest. The pig's head symbolizes the evil and darkness within the boys, as well as the decay of civilization and morality on the island. Traditionally, a choir boy is the perfect little catholic boy who does everything right. The idea was that people throughout time have seen glorifying God as evidence of rightousness and unwaivering faith. So a child singing the praises of God would be the ultimate in innocense and righteous behaviour.
In the book, the kids refer to the littluns as insects. Piggy even says that he couldn't remember all their names because there were SO many. Thus, they are considered to be like swarming flies. Too many to count, and insect-like. That is one reason why the book is called Lord of the Flies. The other reason is that from time immemorial, one of the many names for Satan has been "The Lord of the Flies". The older boys (excluding Piggy) are the Lords of the Flies. The protagonist, Ralph, is THE Lord of the Flies. Satan is the embodiment of all that is evil. This is eventually what the boys become as time goes on - truly evil.
The word "interminable" appears on page 5 of the book "Lord of the Flies." It is used to describe the stretch of time the boys spend marooned on the island.
