She evidentally grew up in a thinly-veiled house of prostitution. one of the two stories is wrong. people can go blind from Congenital syphilis, and this is a grave matter. Of the two Piaf legends, I find the blind story harder to swallow, than the ( dirty night club) to put it politely. as far as is known she did not wear glasses, shades, or have any health aids one might associate with the visually impaired. sorry I don:t buy it.
