Katniss felling when rue dies?

Katniss managed to control her emotions by blocking them out. Right before she died, Rue told Katniss that she had to win for her. Rue also reminded Katniss of her sister, Prim who also told Katniss that she had to win. Katniss then felt that she must complete her dead Ally's wishes and that she had to win for Prim. When Rue died, she wanted to win more than ever.

it was supposed to be a symbol of respect, something that the capitol hated and was symboling to the capitol that even though they had to die and all but one had to fight to the death, she had respect for another competitor

In The Hunger Games, Katniss everdeen, hostile and cold on the outside at times is capable of showing compassion. She cares deeply for her family and is worried if her actions may endanger them. Also in the first book when she assaulted Peeta because of his proclamation of love to Katniss (for the show) she apologized later on when she Haymitch explained it to her and when she saw the damage she did to Peeta's hands. She also shows compassion because she also cared for Peeta when he was injured in the first book by Cato when Peeta turned the table on the Careers. She also exemplifies compassion by displaying kindness and concern when she saw Gale getting beat up because the new head peacemaker caught him poaching in the forest. She put herself between them to stop Gale's punishment. Katniss also promised herself to protect Peeta because of all the sacrifice Peeta makes for her. :D

When Rue died, Katniss surrounded her with flowers to make it look like she had a bed of them. She then stepped away so the hovercraft could take Rue.
