The Hobbit: Unexpected Journey is not a bad movie. The only thing that might put an age restraint on it is the amount of violence. Even though there are a few gory scenes a little bit of fighting, i would say its not half as violent as the Trilogy. I think that you should not need to be a certain age to watch it. It might scare younger children just a bit but not too much.
