In one early version of the script it stated that phil spent 10000 days (27 years) repeating the same day. Many people contemplate this though and argue that he only spent around 10 years. Either way, its still a LONG time.

This is a bit of a trickey question. It is never stated, but you could count the overall amount of days shown in the film, but they don't add up in the grand scheme of things. Phil has to master several arts i.e.; piano playing, ice sculpting, learning French, etc. With this said, there are two credible sources for the amount of time that he spent in Punxsatawney was either 8 years, 8 months, and 16 days or under 34 years whichever one you want to go with.
