In 16, she is still recovering from the burns, tracker-jacker stings and venom, which she has treated with the burn lotion she received from Haymitch and the chewed up leaves that Rue gave her for the stings. Then at the start of 17, she loses her sense of hearing in both of her ears, making her off balance and vulnerable. After she sleeps, she regains hearing in one of her ears, but the other is permanently deaf (until the Capitol fix it.)
