Well, since this never occured in the book series, I just conjured it up on my own. In the show, Hanna has a party after getting hit by a car, and Mona was the one to set it up, even though Hanna didn't nessacarily want one. Afterwards, once the party was over and her mom got home, her mom quickly searched the cabinet and saw the money was gone. I can only guess that Mona found it, but I don't know.
