The answer basically depends on the type of policy you have as well as the reason for your water pumps failure. Mechanical break down would not be covered. However depending on the type of policy your purchased, if the pump was damaged by a covered peril such as fire, wind, hail, lightning etc then it could be a covered loss. the Best option is simply to contact your insurance company or your insurance agent and ask them if it's covered. Remember that the most economical policies may not offer the broadest scope of coverage.

It's no different from needing to do occasional mechanical repairs on your automobile. A warranty might help you if it's still in force but your auto insurance would not pay for mechanical breakdown. Likewise your homeowners insurance policy does not provide for maintenance costs of your home.
