It is called the engine cradle, 4 main bolts hold the cradle to the sub-frame. An easy way to pull an engine is to drop the cradle to the ground, AFTER unhooking ALL the wiring and hoses. This should not be attempted by a nonprofessional.
you don't need to raise the car off the engine cradle at all to change the clutch. i did the whole thing in my driveway
The engine
remove entire engine frame cradle from under carlower engine and trans some to gain clearance at top of trans so it can come out from under car and off the enginerack needs to be unbolted either from the cradle, or disconnected at the steering column U joint and hose ends unthreaded as wellmost of the time the rack is bolted to firewall or cradle and can be left under car when cradle is dropped out from under
The engine is mounted to the vehicle by way of motor mounts.
I found that if you drop the hole engine and cradle from the bottom of the car it is much easier
Motor/engine mounts. Number of mounts and configuration differs from one vehicle to the next.
Usually four, but sometimes six. Each mount has an upper and lower half, sometimes referred to as clamshells.
Price for car mount that holds the engine
Yes ... You need to support the engine from above, there is a hanger that attaches to the top of the shock towers that has a hook on it that will support the engine, when you remove the engine cradle (frame) below.
The cradle that holds the tranmission needs to be dropped with the transmission. the engine stays in the car--unless you have the proper help and tools you might want to let the mechanics do it. The full answer is too long to post here. you will want the Helm manual (ask Pontiac for the address) or the Haynes manual
drop the engine cradle and pull it out the bottom
