It depends on who is At Fault. If the police car had his lights on, or otherwise was in the right, then the registered owner of the car at fault, will probably be liable, no matter who is driving, and, your insurance may not have to cover it. If the driver has proper insurance, they may cover it, though. And, if they had keys to your car, then they had permission. In my experiences anyway, that is the way the law views it.

Answer

If a car is taken without your permission it is stolen, no matter who is driving it or whether it is reported stolen. You should not be liable for any damage to the police car. How your insurance company deal with your claim is between you and them, there is no general rule. In the UK there is a process for recovering uninsured loss.

You had no insurance on your car What if your friend borrowed car with permission had an accident and was issued a citation Can you recover from friend's insurance?

Not likely. For property damage, insurance is primary to the vehicle. Unless you live in WI or NH, you are required to carry liability insurance, regardless if you drive your car or not. Liability pays for the damage your car causes to other people for their injuries and damage to their car. Knowingly lending your uninsured car to some one is legally the same thing as you driving without insurance. Your friend's insurance probably contains a non-owned vehicle clause, but this is designed for loaner cars from dealerships, test drives, and rental cars.

Can you drive a class b classified truck on private property without a cdl license?

With permission of the owner of the vehicle and the property, you could do so without legal consequences. However, if you did something to damage that vehicle or caused damage to property with that vehicle, insurance would reject the claim.

What if someone else drove your car caused damage only to your car can you ask him to claim the damage on his insurance?

The car's insurance would kick in first because YOU gave them permission. Their insurance would pay for whatever is left over.

Are you responsible if someone borrows your car without permission and gets in an accident?

The owner's insurance will pay if he has collision coverage. It Doesn't matter who was driving. the owner will have to pay the collision deductible, unless he wants to press charges against his buddy for "stealing" the car in which case the owner will have to pay the Comprehensive deductible. If the owner has neither collision nor comprehensive, then the owner is out of luck. The buddy's (who borrowed without permission) insurance company is not responsible for anything. They were not insuring that vehicle only his liability (damage he causes to people and vehicles that he hits but is not occupying)

What is the responsibility of an insured person who does not give permission to an uninsured person when they drive their car and cause damage?

If your car was taken without your permission, your insurance company may still cover the claim. However, it would be considered as a theft of vehicle and they may look for reimbursement from the other non-permitted driver's insurance to cover the loss.

Does homeowners insurance cover damage done by foundation failure?

No, but if the failure causes a fire or water damage, then the water and fire damage will be covered.

If your daughter's boyfriend has an accident with your car and didn't have your permission to drive it who has to pay for the other car's damage in New Jersey?

You and/or your insurance.

If a person has permission from you to drive your car and then has an accident can the damage be claimed under their insurance instead of yours?

No, the vehicle's owner's insurance is liable. The insurance is on the specific vehicle, not on the driver. It does not seem fair, but that is the way it is. Nathan C

What happens if you dont have insurance and you get into a car accident driving your friends car - she has insurance?

Her insurance may state 'other drivers with the insured's permission' in which case her insurance would at least in part cover damage to other people/cars, but probably not to her own car. If her insurance does not have that clause, you are probably in trouble.

If your 14 yr old daughter took your car without your knowledge or permission and wrecked it will insurance pay for the damage she caused?

As long as you have coverage. The non-permissive use clause in the policy does not extend to family members that live in the home & have access to keys & vehicles.

What if you get permission to drive your friends car and you crash it what will happen if she i don't want my insurance to cover it what will happen?

If your friend has auto insurance that covers other drivers, you're fine. If not, she will have to pay for the damage or sue you in civil court.
