Home Settling and Insurance

Settling of a home is a natural expected occurrence for all homes. Continued Settling can be expected throughout the life of a property and is usually not considered a covered Peril on Most Homeowners Policies.

If the structure is a newer home and is moving or settling more than one should expect as normal for the ground conditions in your area, then this could be a problem with the Quality of workmanship provided by the Builder. the homeowner may have a claim against the Home Warranty if one was purchased with the home or even may have a claim against the Builder Contractors Completed Operations coverage.

Depending on the Homeowners policy type and the reason for excessive movement you could find coverage for the problem with your Homeowners Insurance Policy.

Just call your Insurance Agent and explain the situation. Your agent can advise if your policy provides the needed coverage.
