An onomatopoeia is defined as the creation of a word from a sound that states what it sounds like. So snigger would be debatable but it is a half-suppressed laugh and used in a sentence it would be describing how someone is laughing then for me it would be classified an a onomatopoeia.

What do the phrases crash and crash and wink and snigger mean on p 24 in Brave New World and why are these phrases being used instead of the real words?

In "Brave New World," the phrases "crash and crash" and "wink and snigger" are euphemisms for sexual intercourse used in this dystopian society where open discussions about sex are considered taboo. By using these euphemisms, the society maintains a facade of respectability while still engaging in such activities. This helps to show how the society uses language to control and limit individual expression.
