As of August 12th one sold for $149.00 USD on Ebay, it had been listed before and went unsold so I'd guess this is what the market value currently is, nothing is worth more than you can sell it for and Ebay attracts a large audience so that seems a reasonable figure to work with, I'd increase that by 25% for insurance purposes only. Here's a link to that closed auction http://cgi.ebay.com/O-HAMMER-Six-Circus-Clowns-1960s-Oil-Painting_W0QQitemZ170370175187QQcmdZViewItemQQptZArt_Paintings?hash=item27aada90d3&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

I was actually looking for an answer to the exact same question. I was searching for something online regarding the Bardot clown paintings and your question came up in my search results. I have 4 of these paintings myself and would also very much like to know if they are worth anything.
You can't. Only if your lucky, but i would say just don't buy off him because if he does give you a fake painting it is only worth 10 bells and you buy it for 3 thousands bells. You can't really tell if it's fake but if he has a painting that costs only 2,000 bellls then you probaly shouldn't buy it. If the painting is really expenses, even for Redd's shop, then you should buy it and see if its real. Just because the paintings aren't real doesn't mean there not good decoration for your house.
Normally a shilling, which back then was worth a lot, so normally only rich/famous people sat there.
You will have to go to your library where you can find the complete works of William Shakespeare, such as plays, and poetry. These are well worth the read. Also, they may be a little heavy at times, so keep a dictionary handy.
