First, Anita, angry at the time, tells the rest of the jets to tell Tony that Maria, his one and only love, had died. When Tony gets the news, he is overcome with sadness. So he goes out, and practically commits suicide by yelling for Chino, a member of the opposite gang, the sharks, to come and shoot him. Suddenly he sees Maria, realizes she isn't dead, and they hug. And just as they hug, Chino comes out and shoots Tony in Maria's arms.

Juliet thinks romeo is dead and she kills herself. then, maria sees tony dead, and tells them to kill her too, like romeo drinking poison when he sees Juliet. hope this answers your question! p.s.
