The two are not mutually exclusive, so it doesn't make much sense to compare and contrast them. Embedded systems are ones found in generally immutable machines, such as ATMs, internet kiosks, airport terminal displays, cellphones, and the screen at McDonalds that displays your order are all examples of embedded systems. Real-time systems are ones that are designed to provide a result within a specific time-frame. If you are using a touch-screen to order a sandwich from a gas store chain, you don't want to have to wait 20 seconds for it to display pictures of each of the ingredients. You want it "now", or at least within a second or two of pushing the button.

What is the Differences between an embedded Operating system and a personal PC Operating system?

Embedded operating systems cannot be replaced with other operating systems. embedded system are designed for dedicated applicationembedded system are tailored to specific application.

Why operating system is not a embedded system?

It is because the basic definition of embedded system is that it involves hardware and software for a single application. The device that is using an operating system may be an embedded system. But the operating system itself is not an embedded system It is because that it is only a software but not the combination of hardware and software.

Differences between single user operating system and real-time operating system?

A single user OS could also be a real-time system. The differences in the two are based on how a process is given control or priority within the system. Realtime systems give preferences to realtime control processes (realtime runs at a much higher priority level). Most single-user operating systems treat processes with equal priority unless you indicate that a certain process is to receive preferential treatment. This can be done by raising the priority of the user process to that of realtime, meaning it will receive resources (such as CPU cycles) above other programs in the system.

Difference between conventional OS and embedded OS?

Conventional OS aim to give users the ability to run other software that are interactive in nature to perform different tasks. On the other hand, embedded OS only run fixed set of tasks and deliver the expected results in real time.

Difference and similarities between embedded systems and general purpose workstations?

ð An embedded system is differ from the general purpose in the view of their purpose. The general purpose computers are the computers that are designed to perform many operations and which can be reconfigured for a new purpose where as an embedded is designed only meant for one purpose.ð An embedded system has a self-contained operating system on a "chip" hence embedded into the system and does not depend on having a hard disk with the operating system on it, whereas in the general purpose computer an operating system need to be present in the hard disk.ð Example for an embedded system is a portable music player; example for general purpose computer is PCs.
