Many people talk about how you can quickly lose weight on a high protein diet, but be aware that the effects are short-lived. When you eliminate most carbohydrates from your diet, you can also lose a significant amount of water. This is what reduces your overall body weight. After this initial weight loss, the only way to further reduce your weight is to consume fewer calories than you expend, just like in any other eating plan.

There is a lot of conflicting information regarding the best way to lose weight, especially regarding food diets. A recent study compared the different diets and ultimately revealed that there is no significant difference in their efficacy for weight loss. Furthermore, it is recommended to lose weight gradually because rapid weight loss was a risk factor for more rapid and important weight regain.

This notion has been challenged by a study that compared the two approaches and demonstrated that the rate of weight loss has no influence on weight regain. Ultimately, the key is to develop strategies that are best suited to the patient, so that he can adhere more easily and maintain his efforts in the long run.

I think I am eligible to answer this. I have gone through this in phases.

Last year July(2015), I started working on my body a bit more aggressive. I have had a very strong determination of what I wanted to achieve. I was weighing a little above 165lbs which was ok for my height(5.9) but not ideal. I was 27 so apparently I should be able to help my body easier than what I can do to a 30+ version of myself. My bodyfat percentage was 17.5 when I started.

Thumb rule : There are no shortcuts here. Focusing on just belly fat is also not ideal and achievable either. Reducing 1-2lbs per week was my personal target while I still focus on my abs and legs.

Diet : Abs are made in kitchen. So I was conscious on what I intake. At least in the initial few weeks I wrote down what I did consume. Try to cut down on carbs, soda, Artificial sugars. Add Green Tea to your routine, enough fruits, fiber in the mornings. It's ok for 1 or 2 get away meals per week with what you love to eat but still better be conscious on how much you eat.

Cardio : Believe the hype here. Cardio is the best workout you could do to cut extra fat. But don't rush into vigorous yet. I started slow, did it right and increased my pace. I do a 9 minute mile now. Running heavy on day 1 will lead to joint injuries. Slow and study will get you there. If you miss cardio, walk as much as you can on your day to day schedule. Gadgets like Fitbit helped me a lot in tracking my activity.

5 mins ab workout : Do abs workout everyday until your comfortable. I was told that reverse crunches are the best lower abs workout. It didn't take longer for me to realize that. Refer to below video for a 5 min workout. Do it twice every day. It's part of my daily workout now.

Work on your core strength: Do Squats with or without weights. Squats is the best workout for your legs. Push hard with weights. People even throw up while doing squats. Do planks, plank pushups, deadlifts, bench-press. If you don't go to gym, you can still do bunch of workouts on your muscles. If you're reading on Quora, you can pretty much refer YouTube for references. I make sure I workout at least 4 times a week and ensure at least 1 day off from workout.

Motivation : For any task you do, you got to have right motivation. Every day I dream about how I want to see myself. That really helped me to cut down extra fat, cut down my calories, cut down the junk food I eat. Slowly workout became part of my routine. It's not a task or boring thing anymore. I just love to workout now. Should be same with anyone. You got to acquire things you want to do.

Results: I got down to 143lbs with in 2 months after I followed a disciplined routine. My body fat came down to 12% by September and 9.7% when I am writing this. My weight did not change much since then. I didn't look for faster results. I wanted a healthy life style and get it the right ways. More than achieving weight target, I built the stamina. I can do 20 pushups easily. I can run for 3 miles without a break. I am indeed proud of myself with what I can do now compared to few months back.

One thing I would say is totally be selfish in this department. After all you're helping yourself not anyone. So why not go greedy?
