Why do butch lesbians shave their heads?

Not all do, but the reasons for this vary. The simplest answer is that it just feels comfortable, and they like it. So some probably do it as an extension of their inner nature.

Some may do it for activism or political reasons. If your employer has separate dress code rules for the genders and dictates how women are to wear their hair, and you shave your head, that is making a political statement and is an exercise of autonomy. Sometimes it is a rebellious act and a way of liberating oneself from society's shackles and cultural rules. It can be a symbolic act. If a girl is forced into beauty pageants or forced to follow certain expectations based on their gender, they might get tired of that life. Sometimes it is just a onetime thing. You shave your head as a way to say nobody owns you, and then later, once you got that out of your system, it is no longer a big deal, and you may take the path of least resistance instead.

Some may have had bad experiences with men. So they may dress in a way to make themselves less attractive to men. They may feel that having beautiful hair is somewhat connected to being objectified on the basis of their gender.
