No, the first handguns were single shot pistols. A pistol with a revolving barrel was not invented until a couple of hundred years later.
Not particularly successful, the revolving rifle followed the creation of the revolving pistol by Colt. The problem with a revolving rifle is that when fired, gasses are vented from the gap between the cylinder, and the rear of the barrel. With a handgun, the shooter's hand is behind this gap, With a rifle, the left hand (for a right handed shooter) is placed beneath the forearm (barrel) to support in. This places your left forearm in a position to be burned/injured by the cylinder gap flash when firing.
There are examples of "revolving barrel" firearms made before 1500 AD.
Revolvers hold cartridges in a cylinder. When the revolver is operated, the cylinder turns (revolves) to align a cartridge with the barrel. Originally called a Revolving Pistol, shortened to revolver.
Which pistol? Most production pistols have a barrel length of 1 to 8 inches.
third US president, Thomas Jefferson, invented revolving chair
The first weapon that worked like a pistol was the matchlock arm, used by Spanish armies in the late 15th Century. Wheel locks were then invented and the weapon was in common use by French armies by 1544. In 1836 the revolving pistol (revolver) as it now exists was patented by Samuel Colt of Connecticut.
Never heard of it. Need a detalied description of all markings, finish, barrel length, condition. Leinad made several different models of .410/45LC derringers. A five shot pepperbox, single shot pistols, double barrel pistols, and a Model PD which was a two shot revolving pistol.
