This answer requires a lot of detail, so I will start with the most specifics. I know that while you are pregnant you may acquire tastes for foods you have never cared for, but it can also go the other way! So just do the best you can to keep you and your baby healthy!

  • Fish a wonderful source of nutrients whether you are pregnant or not. It contains an excellent supply of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. The only problem is Mercury naturally occurs in the environment and particularly in fish that consume other fish. Hence, eating tuna,shark,swordfish and others may not be your best source of food during pregnancy, as well as others.
  • Try to consume foods that are high in fiber. For example, always eat whole wheat bread. Instead of eating Cocoa Krispies, eat some Wheaties! Chik-Fil-A even offers there chicken Sandwiches on whole wheat buns. So that shouldn't be that difficult of a change!
  • Calcium is a key nutrient during pregnancy. You should have at least four servings of calcium a day (which is about 1,000-1,300 mg). You can take supplements or eat Tums if you have difficulty with this part, though I always say that a natural source of your nutrients are the best.
  • Try to consume at least one serving of Vitamin-C a day. If you cannot find any foods you like that contain Vitamin C (papaya, strawberries, cauliflower, broccoli etc.) then try finding a VitaminWater that you like. They usually contain about 250% of your daily dose of Vitamin C
  • Also try to consume at least one good serving of Vitamin-A daily. You can find a good supply of Vitamin A in your dark green and yellow fruits and vegetables.
  • NO alcohol whatsoever
  • No tobacco either
  • Limit your caffeine to as minimal as possible, or cut it out completely. This includes coffee and tea!
  • Try to cut your fat intake
  • Limit your foods that contain high amounts of cholesterol.
