First you need to get comfortable with your partner. If you two just started a relationship, ask different questions like "So, what kind of movies/music/TV shows do you like?" or "Do you have any brothers or sisters?" Sometimes awkward silences are helpful, for two reasons. One, if you have the right questions, you can find out a lot about your partner that you never knew, and you two will be able to be more comfortable around each other. Two, it means that neither of you likes to hog the spotlight too much, which could be bad in a relationship. If you and your partner already have been dating for a few weeks/months, and you know almost everything about them, your hopefulyl more comfortable with them. Now we can get into the stage of "Worrying Silences". The name is not as bad as it sounds, actually, it's not bad at all. When your a few months into a relationship, and there are awkward silences with you and your partner, don't worry. Many couples worry about these because they feel like something is going downhill with their relationship, but these come because you two already know so much about each other that neither of you know what to ask the other one. The great part about this is, you don't always have to ask questions. Just talk. Try talking first about something (s)he likes. If you know what they like, but don't have a clue about it, chill out. You two have made it a few months, you must have somethings in common, so talk about something you both enjoy. If you both know what it is and what it's about, you can end up talking for hours about it, which, in the end, will help your relationship massively. - A.T.S.

Hey! How 'bout those Dodgers? It's not necessarily what you say, but how you say it. There are comedians that say some dopey stuff, but they are funny because they are unafraid to show how they feel. If you feel akward, so what? Who hasn't felt like they just said the dullest thing on the planet? To make an interesting comment, you have to have something dull to compare. Start off saying you feel bored, nothing to say. Then say I wish the moon was made of cheese. Just ramble. It's better than saying nothing and having dead air. Go on about something ridiculous and watch their face. You'll get insight in their eyes. There is nothing stupid. Have you seen this or that movie? Remember, it's not what you say, but how you say it. You can say, "I went to school today", or, "I went to school today and man, then I had the greatest day of my life, because I'm here with you!"
