Life for slaves after the civil war was hard for them because people still didn't like them because of their color and race. So trying to get a job was almost impossible, but they were great at farm working and taking care of children because that's what they did as a living.
Many Southerners believed slavery was not wrong because: - Slavery was economically necessary for the South - The Bible did not speak out against slavery - The slaves were treated with much care from the Southern owners - Slaves were seen as children (innocent, unaware that they were being taken advantage of) and the Southerners viewed themselves as "parents" to the slaves. - Blacks were a naturally inferior race unable to take care of themselves.
Yes, Irish folk were taken is as indentured servants, acting as slaves until they could earn enough money to pay for their release from service. Sometimes they could pay, sometimes they could not, and remained servants. Every race has been the victim of slavery and still are today.
The North supported abolition and tended to look down on slave holders. On the other hand, the South needed the slaves in order to maintain their high standards of living. Without slaves the large property owners in the South would begin to fail.

Slaves. If you are reffering to their race/skin color of northern american slaves in the 1800's then they are called 'African Americans'
It's not as published as the African American slaves, but yes they certainly were. Every race, or religion were slaves to another race or religion at some point. The Irish were white, and they were enslaved and sold as well.
Some slaves came with their owners when they were settlers. Others came [were actually shipped] from the Colombian Exchange. Others that were legal settlers became slaves because of their race.
Most slaves were captured from other countries. Slavery was not determined by race.
