In the pre-Civil War South, only about 1-2% of white families owned large slave plantations, typically defined as having 20 or more enslaved individuals. While slavery was a widespread institution that supported the Southern economy, the majority of white Southerners were not plantation owners but rather small farmers or landless laborers. The concentration of wealth and land among these large plantation owners significantly shaped the social and economic dynamics of the region.

Slave rebellions
Non-slave owners in the South were typically small farmers or laborers who did not have the wealth or resources to own slaves. They often faced economic challenges and social disadvantages compared to slave-owning families. They could also feel pressure to support the institution of slavery due to its prominence in Southern society.
Historically, in the United States, many slave owners were indeed white. Slavery was deeply entrenched in American society, particularly in the South, where white plantation owners relied on enslaved African Americans for labor. It's important to note that slavery has existed in various forms across multiple cultures and time periods, and the concept of slavery is not limited to any one racial group.
Slaves were africans kidnapped from Africa by white traders, then sailed on boats away from Africa and then were sold to their owners. Actually most Slaves were SOLD to White Traders by the Chiefs of their tribes. Kidnapping was only a part of the Slave Trade.
