If you drop the cylinder you will also find a serial number on the bottom of the pistol. It will probably be the same as on the grip base but be preceeded by a letter "B". Mine was produced in 1913 and is considered a model 1903, change # 5. Serial no. is 178783. There were 160,499 produced up until 1917. Information per S&W historian "Roy G. Jinks". I took it to a gun show and it was estimated to be worth around $300.00. +/- based on condition. Hope this helps.
