common Allen wrenches but to remove the barrel or barrel nut look for dan Wesson parts i recently bought nut removal tool as a kit,
A 5906 what? As a general rule, barrel bushings are one piece and do not disassemble. I am Sorry...: How do you "remove" a S&W 5906 barrel bushing ?? It sounds like an after market barrel of some type. The 5906 does not have a barrel bushing. The barrel is "belled". www.alpharubicon.com/leo/breakdown5906.htm This link will show you how to disassemble it.
Take it to a gunsmith
remove magazine 1.... clear the pistol, make sure that no ammo is chambered (pull the slide twice or thrice to eject any ammo lodge on the chamber 2... pull the slide to a point that the notch on the slide is line up with the slide stop 3... push the slide stop from the right side of the pistol to elevate the other side 4...pull the slide stop 5... separate the stock from the slide by pulling the slide to the left and the stock to the right 6... once separated the recoil spring and spring guide will be visible 7...push the spring guide to compress the spring and clear the barrel link 8...slowly remove the spring guide and spring 9...rotate the barrel bushing clockwise to clear the way for the recoil spring plug 10..remove recoil spring plug 11..rotate the barrel bushing counter-clockwise and pull the bushing from the slide 12..remove the barrel from the slide
Best left to a trained and equipped gunsmith.
Please note there are at least 4 different models of this pistol. 2 of the early models used a barrel bushing, and takedown is a bit different. For the ones with no bushing- remove magazine, draw slide to rear, check chamber to insure is empty. On the RIGHT side of frame/slide towards the muzzle is a vertical line, and an arrow. Draw slide to rear until arrow lines up with the line. While holding them aligned, rotate the barrel until it stops. Slide and barrel can now be slid forward off the frame. Then turn barrel back to remove from frame. DO NOT suggest any disassembly beyond that point, or you will learn several new curse words.
pull pin under barrel it may be stuck
You can request a owner's manual at the S&W web site.
Take it to a gunsmith or be prepared to invest in tools and books that will allow/describe the procedure.
First, double check to make sure the pistol is unloaded (both magazine removed and chamber empty). Cock hammer. Retract slide enough to align the circular end of the slide stop (located above serial number) with the notch in the slide. Push the slide stop out from the other side of the pistol, and remove it from the frame. Pull slide forward and off frame. Next, with the slide upside down, carefully remove the guide rod and recoil spring. Next, twist the barrel bushing (the piece on the front of the slide that keeps the barrel in place) counter clockwise and pull forward out of slide. Then remove barrel from slide. Assembly is in reverse order. Be careful putting the recoil spring/guide rod back on, as it rests on a tiny notch in the barrel and can easily slip and shoot across the room (fast enough to break a window or put your eye out). Another point of interest are the ejector and other "levers" that stick up from the frame, you must hold these down when putting the slide back on the frame. Good luck and enjoy your 659. I sure like mine!
Ask a gunsmith for help or contact S&W for an owner's manual. You can also download one from their website.
Try grease and a gage pin of close fit to the bushing. Simply apply a large amount of grease to the ID of the bushing. Insert gage pin and hammer.
