The term rhythm refers to any wavelike reccurence motion or sound. In poetry, it is the natural rise and fall of language brought about by the pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables.

In some patterns, rhythm is irregular. Often, the change in rhythm emphasizes the words involved as in the following poem.
