A transition state isn't actually a reaction-formed compound or a stable form in any way. It is simply the description of the breaking and forming of bonds via attacking and accepting sites on the reactants.
An intermediate indeed is a compound formed by a reaction step, though it is highly reactive and will quickly progress to a more stable form. Because of their instability, intermediates are very tough to isolate, despite being an identifiable compound.
