The way I understand the differences is that purpose is an intended use for having or needing something. We can purpose something, or make something to serve or satisfy a cause, use or need. This comment box is purposed to share answers and ideas. The reasons can vary. Reasoning involves logic, conformity and necessity. Who dictates or what rules govern the direction of our choices and actions. Sometimes the reasons are social, professional or business standards and ethics. Or maybe your boss or teacher have set some guidelines and criteria for how to do some work project. These factors will dictate and explain the reasons you did your work in a particular order, technique, tools used and the reason you couldn't freestyle or improvise while doing the work. We purpose things to serve and satisfy needs. We have reasons for doing what we do, when and how we do it. Other words with similar use via similar thought processes, are intention, objective and cause. Most of these words are used to explain or plan the order of actions and clarify what is necessary to meet our needs and achieving desired results.
