The term cracks was used to describe the narrow, fissure-like structures that are seen on almost all surfaces.

They are actually the outer edges of lamellae.

In decalcification of ground sections of enamel,cracks usually disappear whereas the enamel lamellae still persist because they contain greater concentrations of organic material.
