Cigarettes contain three drugs, called Nicotine, Tar and Carbon Monoxide. Tar is a sticky black thing that sheds all the hairs off your lungs and covers the lungs so you can't breathe properly. Nicotine is something that keeps you addicted to smoking and makes you want to buy them even more, also making your heart beat faster. And finally, Carbon Monoxide is also very bad. I forgot what it does though, sorry. Anyway, this is what is in a cigarette. :)

Smokers inhale Nicotine into their lungs which is addictive and causes blood preasure to increase. It can also lead to the formation of blood clots, which can lead to Heart disease.
There is also tar in Tobacco which irritates the lining of the air passages in the lungs, making them inflamed and causing bronchitis. Tar can also cause the lining cells to multiply, causing lung cancer. Tar also damages the cilia and makes extra mucus which trickles into the lungs because it can no longer be removed by the cilia. That's why smokers' cough...they're bodies try to remove the mucus!
Tobacco also contains Carbon Monoxide which affects the blood cells.
