It's normal for the length of a woman's period to vary from month to month. Anthing between about 26 days to 35 days between the first day of one period and the first day of the next period is normal.

It is not reasonable to expect your period to come on the same day every month.

You know if you are pregnant if your period is a week late and your pregnancy test is positive.

Women have period every month if the are not pregnant. Since the "blood" from the period is used to be the nutrients for the embryo, so if a woman is not pregnant, those "blood" which should be used as nutrients will come out from her body as period because it's not used.

If you have your period the 20th of the month before last the 12th of last month and the 4th of this month does it mean you are pregnant?

No, it just means your period isn't stable just yet. I used to have my period twice a month before I got on birth control to regulate it. It doesn't mean you're pregnant just because you're getting your period every 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks.
