What does the term DATING really mean?

There are a lot of questions on here about dating, especially should someone X years old date someone Y years old questions. Here are some ideas: Dating - could be a one shot deal. He says "She looks cute, I'll ask her for a date". Dating - could mean an exclusive relationship where one person expects the other not to see anyone else. Dating - could mean that a sexual relationship is taken for granted. Dating - doesn't make sense to me in any of the above situations unless you really know and like the person first. Dating is a COURTSHIP ritual. Think about it. Women believe they are being courted for a more serious relationship and expect a lot more from dating than guys do. Why would anyone engage in a COURTSHIP ritual with someone they don't know? One of the reasons people feel so awkward on dates is because they are trying to "court" someone they don't know. If you are attracted to someone it is much simpler to not "date" but just get to know each other and find out if there is a basis for friendship. Dating refers to af ew friends out together they don't have to want to like each other Dating refers to the liking of two people who feel as though they should explore more and go out on a date to get to know one another a little bit more than they already do.
